Three area cities
recognized as
Communities for All Ages
The Mid-America Regional Council honored three area cities for becoming more age friendly at the First Suburbs Coalition meeting on Jan. 26, 2018. The city of Mission attained the gold level designation, Kearney received both silver and gold level designations, and Lee rsquo;s Summit was recognized for achieving the bronze level.
To earn gold level recognition, the city of Mission applied an age-lens to its updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Kearney earned gold by applying an age-lens to the city rsquo;s updated Comprehensive Plan, adopted in January 2017.
The first Communities for All Ages awards were presented in May 2015. Previous awards have gone to Gladstone and Raymore (gold); Excelsior Springs, Independence, Liberty, Mission and Roeland Park (silver); Blue Springs, Grandview, Kearney and Raytown (bronze).

Kansas City Quality of Life
survey results available
In November, MARC published a detailed analysis of data from a quality of life survey commissioned by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation earlier this year. The report analyzes 20 questions about individual, community and metro area quality of life, providing detailed information by gender, age group, race, educational attainment and income levels.
The analysis found that family is by far the most important factor in determining the quality of life, for all demographic groups. Financial well-being and health are the next most important factors.
More than 75 percent of respondents rated their individual quality of life as good or excellent, but when tabulated by race and income the results were notably different, with only half of low-income and black residents responding positively.

2018 Economic Forecast for Kansas City
MARC #39;s Director of Research Services Frank Lenk presented the region rsquo;s economic forecast on October 26, 2017, at The Greater Kansas City Chamber rsquo;s annual Economic Forecast Breakfast.
The economy is doing well with no sign of a recession in the foreseeable future. It rsquo;s steady pace since the end of the Great Recession makes it a beacon of stability with in a sea of uncertainty created by a combination of recent natural disasters and on-going national policy debates. With growth rates near the economy #39;s potential, unemployment at a 16-year low, rising wages and no inflation, the economy is experiencing a rare quot;Goldilocks quot; moment.
